GOLD AND KILATES
The carats in a jewel refer to the percentage of pure gold that the alloy has. The term Kilate (karat) refers to the degree of purity of precious metals, which is why we usually find the letter “K” within the characteristics of a gold jewel.
The higher the karatage, the greater the amount of gold the jewel contains.
A 24k piece means that 999.99% of the metal it contains is pure gold, therefore, it is a soft metal and is usually mixed with other metals to increase its durability.
For its part, 14K gold contains 14 parts of gold melted with 10 parts of another metal.
